All teams will race in three 500m races. Top team in every division will receive medals
All teams will race in two 200m races. Top team in every division will receive medals.
For the grand finale all teams will race in the 2000m race with all teams receiving 2000m race medals !!!
Power…. Boldness…. Heroism… These words symbolize a dragon.
Excellence…. Perseverance…. Ambitious…. These words symbolize a team.
Dragonboating is the ultimate team sport! There is nothing so rejuvenating as being part of the graceful movements made by a totally synchronized team of 22 people. The energy that is exuded when the start cannon blasts through the air signaling the “GO!” is incredible. Twisting, leaning, reaching, driving the paddle into the water with every stroke…sitting up…exiting the paddle…snapping it forward…over and over again.
The drummer yelling, encouraging, demanding more from the team…the steersperson concentrating on the course, the strategy…when should the power come in to play? NOW! The steersperson calls out for the team to dig deeper, reach longer, give everything you’ve got.
Because two and ?? minutes later…
As you cross the finish line….
It is over.
Exhausted, elated as you try to catch your breath…you feel that rather than 22 people in the dragonboat there is one team. Unified.
The International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Corporate and Community Championships (WCORCOM)
are set to take place on the Welland Canal Regatta Course, Niagara, Canada on 27-29 July 2007.
This world-class dragonboat event is an exciting new Championship especially for the Festival Racer.
WCorcom is designed for crews from businesses and corporations of all sizes, in the private and public sector, like Banks, Insurance, Fire, Police, Medical Services and also the community at large, such as fitness centres, sports clubs, churches, Special interest groups too, including BCS (Breast Cancer Survivors) crews, who will have their own racing division within WCorcom, as well as taking part in the Open Competition, if they so wish.
Welland welcomes experienced teams and brand new teams to participate in this three-day event.
Each boat carries twenty-two team members racing different lengths to prove worldwide who, not only has the speed, endurance and strength, but which team can show complete synchronized teamwork and cooperation!
Crews race against each other in ‘Open’ competition but may also be divided into different interest or ability groups e.g. Banks and Insurance Companies; depending on the number of total entries received.

In addition the Organizing Committees will be offering participants a range of other activities, including cultural activities to take part in and places to go, both before and after the WCorcom.
Any interested group are therefore most welcome at a WCorcom to participate in any and many of the local site seeing tours and expeditions.
