Look Who Raced in Milton!

  1. The Outer harbour Premier Women’s Dragon Boat Club was formed in 2004 to provide an opportunity for women to paddle in a club environment with potential for National as well as International competition.  This year we aer hoping to win a berth to the CCWC for 2010 Macau.

  2. CPB  Carpe Diem-  CPB is a community association made up of professionals dedicated to organizing community events, fundraising, and business networking.

  3. York Dragons are a recreational team comprised mainly of Police officers and civilian employees of York Regional Police.  The team is sponsored by our Association.  The focus of the team is to interact with the community in a positive atmosphere and to have fun

BMO First Dragons -was founded in 1989 and consists mainly of BMO employees from different lines of business.  In 2008 the BMO First Dragons won the coveted Bankers’ Cup Championship at the Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival and consistently ranked within the top divisions at each of the regattas that they participated in.  The success that the team enjoyed in 2008 has set a high standard that it expects to surpass in 2009.  For 2009, BMO First Dragons is confirmed to attend the Milton, Pickering, Toronto Island and Montreal regattas.  Hope to see everyone there!

  6. Holy Mac-Attack!- is the newest addition to the McMaster dragonboat family.  We are here to carry on the tradition of excellence of our sister boats and to do it long, hard, and deep!

  7. Holy Mac-Row-has been representing McMaster University since 2002.  We bring the McMaster spirit and enthusiasm to every race and we are looking forward to another successful season.

The Civil Dragons- are entering their eighth season, and is one team of many at the OPS Dragonboat Club.  We are a group of enthusiastic paddlers from the Ontario Public Service and other organizations.  The Milton Regatta is one of the popular regattas of the season, and our goal is to have fun and compete to the best of our ability.  See www.opsdragonboats.ca for more details about our club and it’s various programs.  Please contact TimMacfarlane@ontario.ca  if your team would like to race in teh 125th Annual Canada Day Regatta at Toronto Islands.  The boat sare supplied at this event by Lively Dragon.  Good luck to all teams this season!!!!

  10. S.S. Minnow- Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fun-filled trip,
                       That will start from the Kelso pond, aboard a tiny ship.
                       The crew are a mighty sailin', the dragon brave and sure.
                       20 paddlers will set sail that day for a 1 minute tour, a 1 minute tour.

     Our team members are thrilled to be participating for the second year to benefit the residents of the Villages of Halton (Allendale, Post Inn Village, Creek Way) and the participants of the Adult Day Programs (Milton Place and Friends' Landing).

Rye-D-Boat- We are a team that has been growing for the past three years.  Last year was one of our greatest seasons.  We had our best time, and were winners of the university cup B Division.  This year we hope to achieve greater.  This year especially, Ryerson University has helped us out tremendously with the pfacs grant.

Aquaholics- Since 2000, the Aquaholics have been ripping through Ontarios’ water with frenzied fury and unabashed spirit.  With their unequivocal good looks and contagious cheers, this Toronto team embodies all the virtues of dragonboating- skill, team work, and cool jerseys.  Feel free to browse through our website and take a closer look at the team that many have called ‘the hippest crew on the waves’  (or ‘”the biggest bunch of @$$#^1*$”, depending on who you talk too...)

Our team, “Grease Lightning” represents the Adult Day Programs ‘Milton Place’ and “Friends’ Landing”.  We would like to thank our clients and their families for their incredible encouragement and support.  “Grease Lightning’ also recongnizes our amazing volunteers and the drivers with red cross who look after our clients with us and, some of whome, even paddle with us.  Thanks Folks---You are all part of our team.

  22. Windburn Race Crew- is a mixed dragon boat community rec team that has been competing  for ten years.

  23. Toronto Area Dragons (TAD) Dragon Boat Club was found in 2001 by members of diverse in age and racial and cultural background with a common goal to pursuit health, fitness and well-being through the sport of dragon boating and related exercises. Club members have enjoyed dragon boat racing at recreational and advanced level competition held locally and overseas. TAD was invited to participate in dragon boat festivals and races in Tianjin, Hong Kong and Nejimi. The club and individual members representing for Canada national teams have been the medalists in the Masters and Grand Masters Divisions in the IDBF World Dragon Boat Championships in Philadelphia, Shanghai, Poznan and Berlin, as well as in the Club Crew World Championships in Toronto, Canada.

  24. JetStart- Greater than the sum of its parts,
    Jetstart is more than a dragonboat team, it’s a family. We work hard not for ourselves but for each other and our dedication shines through in our results. Year after year, we have become steadily more competitive even as we have more and more fun.
    Jetstart can trace its history back to 1990. Originally formed as an Air Canada corporate team, Jetstart still has, at its core, a number of Air Canada employees. Over time, other members have joined the team from numerous other fields such as health care, finance, engineering and education.
    Based in and around Toronto,
    Jetstart has never shied away from travel. We proudly represent our city, province and country in places as far away as Montreal, Vancouver, San Francisco and even China.
    We love to race and we show it by competing in about seven events every season. Even off the water,
    Jetstart members can be found running, swimming or cycling in races all year round.
    The 2008 season was an unparalleled success for
    Jetstart with berths in the A-final of every festival we entered and festival wins in Milton, Montreal and San Francisco.
    Our spirit can be infectious and we're proud to boast a long list of friends from all points of the compass. We love making new friends so don't be afraid to stop by the tent and say "Hi!”
    We'd like to wish all the other teams a hearty "Good Luck!" and we look forward to seeing you on the water.

Pink Sensations- We are a Breast Cancer Survivor Team that has been together since 2004.  Our mission as a team is to provide support for breast cancer survivors through a fun and challenging sport.  Our team illustrates the benefits  of an active life style, raises awareness about breast cancer and provides support, hope and fellowship to team members.

  26. Catch22-  is a family of friends. It's a group of individuals that originated from a common belief in fitness, fun and teamwork. 2008 was a great year - - 2009 will be even better!!!

Old Skul’d- was started in 2006 by several University of Toronto Engineering Alumni with the aim to create a competitive team comprised of, but not restricted to, mostly graduates of Engineering disciplines. Our inaugural season saw us compete in 3 events around the Greater Toronto Area. Since then we've strived to maintain our competitive level in a wider scope of races.  This year, as always, we hope to improve on our results from the previous year and break through into the upper echelon of dragon boating.

Water Vipers- The Water Vipers is an enthusiastically strong driven team originally formed by a group of recent Toronto university graduates.  The team has now expanded throughout the communities, and together, strive to achieve a new personal best in the 2009 dragon boat season.  Water Vipers!!! Sssss!!!"

  30. Post Inn Penguins- Our Penguins paddled as well as they waddled, with great zest in 2008. So with our Penguin pizzazz, again, we paddle right out in that lake.  Though not the strongest, nor the fastest, with heart and soul we’ll paddle - from, nursing, admin and friends we’ll give it our very best waddle.  Thank you to all of our 2009 sponsors!

  31. Team Chaos—Founded in 1999 as a corporate team, we are now an independent community crew paddling out of the Outer Harbour Dragon Boat Club. Each summer we participate in numerous festivals and regattas throughout Ontario and Quebec.

Iron Dragons are the official dragonboat team of the faculty of applied science and engineering at the university of Toronto.  Composed of engineering undergraduates, and coached by Skule, Alumni, we can be recognized by the yellow hard hat on the dragons head, and by cheering that is WAY TOO LOUD!!!!  We are sponsored by the Engineering Society, the U of T Students’ Union, The Engineering Alumni Association, and the Departments and the Divisions of the Faculty.

  35. Spirit of Osler- The staff of William Osler Health Centre have been dragon boat racing since 1998 and are proud to represent Brampton Civic and Etobicoke General Hospitals in this fun and competitive sport!

  38. CMAC Konami (Small Wave- is the sister team to CMAC Hayanami (Fast Wave, the all black belt boat.) CMAC Konami is racing in their fourth season as a fairly novice boat, with mostly first time paddlers who all are martial arts students with Classical Martial Arts training towards their black belts (and eventually position in the Hayanami Boat!)  This paddling martial arts team has beginner students (yellow/orange belts)  to intermediate/seniours (blue/brown belts).  They are thrilled to participate in this years events for such an important cause but also as part of their martial arts training and an opportunity to challenge their black belt seniors of CMAC Hayanami!

  39. CMAC Sazanami (Ripple or little wave)- is Classical martial Arts newest team consisting of our youth martial arts students from our organization.  Paddlers are all new to the dragonboat experience but most of the paddlers have been training in the Martial Arts for at least four years and many of these young and eager participans are at blue adn brown belt levels in their martial Arts training.  With age range from 13-19 years, they are determined to impress and make a definite statement in this year’s race.  This group of young dedicated and committed martial artists recognize this event as a great opportunity to work together as a new team at the same time supporting a great charity cause, CMAC Sazanami, also naturally competitive, has their eye on three teams to beat this year.... and they are all from CMAC !

  40. CMAC ‘High’-Nami- is our internal CHALLENGER team!  This is Classical Martial Arts Canada’s fourth team and second ALL BLACK BELT boat.  This is our challenger team because ALL black belts from this boat all come from and train at the same dojo (school), CMAC High Park!  Many are paddling for their first tiem and many are participating in this event for their first time too!  They certainly have the spirit and want to at least challenge CMAC Hayanami, our first original black belt team, which holds the 2008 250m first place title. GAMBATTE!!

  41. CMAC Hayanami- (Fast Wave) is the original dragon boat team from Classical Martial Arts Canada.  A boat comprised of all black belt martial artists including Black Belt instructors, Black Belt Assistants and Black Belt students from many of the schools in CMAC.  They are eager to return this year, in their 5th year with the event (and 5th season ever racing), to hold onto their 250m championship title from last year – they are more than ready this year as they know the challenge is on – CMAC has 3 additional teams racing who also want to claim this title, but mostly just to say they beat them.  A little more inside challenge also will come from the other ALL BLACK BELT boat CMAC High-nami (the challenger).

U of T New College New Dragons- Based out of New College in the University of Toronto, the New Dragons are one of the fastest University team in Ontario.  With strong leadership, first class trainers and committed paddlers, we have improved our performance at regattas every year since our inception in 2000.

  43. Bolton Kindred Spirits- Our club puts on the town Terry Fox run every year, Christmas gifts for seniors and the town’s Santa Claus Parade, Fire works for kids on July 1st and a charity new years dance.

  44. Smoke on the Water-Fun team that has been around the block and enjoy living it up.  We take on any team and give them a run.....

  45. Stroke the Dragon- is made up of dedicated individuals committed to the underlying values of dragon boating:  Courage, Dedication and Teamwork!  But most importantly, we like to have fun!!

Lively Dragon’s Blind Ambition- We are the recreational team out of the Lively Dragon Club.  We welcome everyone to our team... no tryouts, just ambition is required.  We are racing today but we are also hosting this event...so we could use a hand on the docks throughout the day when it is our turn to race.  See you on the water!

Apetito-We are all excited to help out the Willow Foundation.  A lot of the team members are first time paddlers but would like to go for the “gold”  We are a company that prepares nutritious and healthy meals within the healthcare community and support the community meal programs.  We are looking forward to learning a new skill and maybe next year taking part in more than one race.

  52. SOB Dragons- are primarily hospital workers who enjoy paddling as stress relief from hospital life, have formed a strong bond as a team and have achieved more than we dreamed of in the paddling world. We look forward to what we can accomplish in our second year at the Milton regatta. And yes, SOB is a medical term (Shortness of Breath) ..... or whatever you would like it to mean. We have fun with the name wherever we go.

Napa Valley Whiners - From the vineyards to the tasting rooms, the Napa Valley Whiners are a collective of quirky individuals with one foot firmly planted on the soapbox at all times.  Heated debates and spirited discussions are oft decanted early and often, so paddling became the sport of choice: sometimes it's a good thing to be able to just shut up and paddle!  The Whiners look forward to growing as a team, much like a fine wine
