"Something Completely Different"
by Vivian Medley-Marks

To my fellow dragon boaters.
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Vivian Medley-Mark and I am a member of the Saint John, N.B. breast cancer survivor dragon boat team, Breasts Ahoy. I have an exciting project that I would like to announce to all survivor teams across Canada; I have written a children’s book on dragon boating, in general and survivor dragon boating, in particular. It’s entitled "Something Completely Different". I have self-published the book and my intent, in part, is to use it as a national fundraising tool for all of the survivor dragon boat teams across Canada

BOOKNOTES
Chapter 6 pp. 74-91: Traditional Longboats of Asia Pacific looks at the variety of boats, dragon and otherwise, which have been raced in Asia for centuries. Photo captions on pages 75 & 85 are incorrect: the dragon boats are in Taiwan, not Hong Kong

Short Story on the web by Orson Scott Card --Atlantis Twerk himself, however, could not keep from looking. He finally left his dragonboat and climbed his tree and watched. The women had brought their dragonboats in a large circle around the woman in travail. Those with children clinging to them or bound to them kept their boats on the fringes--they would be little help, with their hands full already. It was the older women and the young girls who were in close, the older women to help, the younger ones to learn.

A Bridge of Birds

There came the Dragon Boats skimming across the water
while the crowds went wild. There floated the Betting Boat, with all the officials and bookmakers on board. And
there I came, walking right over the surface of the water. It was a shallow river and I was on stilts, of course. I wore
the kind of ceremonial robes that Ch'u Yuan might have worn, and I had a long black beard and a staff.
Selected Stories,Lu Husn, 1918-1926 At the Dragon Boat Festival the next year, he said the same thing again. But when the Mid-Autumn Festival came, he did not mention it. And another New Year came round without our seeing any more of him.
