Who: FLCT’s Blazing Paddles is a fun and competitive group that represents Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theatre, a children’s charity providing outreach and cultural services for over 50 years. Our members range from about 14 years old to 60-something, and we are happy to expand that range. It is a coed group. You do NOT need to have paddling experience (most of our members did not when they joined), just a good attitude. We have a pirate theme, so it helps if you have a hearty "Arrgghh!" when appropriate.

We paddle and race in Dragon Boats, kayaks and canoes. In the annual Wilton Manors Canoe Race in May, we paddle in canoes. Kayak and outrigger races are throughout the year. Where: Most practices will be in a dragon boat at the Miami Rowing Club. We sometimes practice in outrigger canoes in Fort Lauderdale, or in regular canoes, with the practice sites being in the greater Fort Lauderdale area, especially Hollywood. Members sometimes paddle in other venues, such as the Florida Keys and the wild and scenic Loxahatchee River.

When: Typically we practice on Saturday at 9:30 am. There is some variation based on when boats and paddlers are available.
Why: Good fun, great people, excellent exercise and a way to enjoy South Florida’s recreational opportunities. Cost is minimal. We also get to see wildlife. We have paddled alongside manatees and been visited by porpoises. We commonly see a variety of wading birds.

We are a new team of 1 year but are determined to spread the word of

friends our dream is to have dragon boats in every section of Texas,

We are Xtreme NY / Xtreme USA, Inc., a veteran team in Dragon Boat Racing and also a 501 (c)(3) IRS tax exempt non-profit organization. Our crew came together in 1996, formed by a group of friends in New York City. Searching for an outlet for our irrepressible competitive spirit, we were introduced to dragon boat racing. Since then, every summer, we can be found spending our weekend mornings practicing in a never ending struggle to improve.
