The fourth annual dragon boat festival hosted by The Dragon Flies is taking place on Saturday, June 21, 2008!

The spacious grounds of Palmer Park in Port Perry will become a hub of activity when hundreds of people visit this picturesque town just 45 minutes east of Toronto. Some will be spectators, some will be volunteers and others will be team members doing their part to raise funds for Breast Cancer awareness, diagnosis and treatment.

A majority of proceeds will be donated to the four (4) local hospitals: Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Lakeridge Health Port Perry, Uxbridge Cottage Hospital and the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Region Cancer Centre.

Races cover 500m with four boats in each heat. The course will span the water from the southwest side of Scugog Island over to Palmer Park.
Forty-eight teams, including breast cancer survivor and youth teams, will take part in this year's festival. Team divisions include Youth Crew (ages 12-17), Mixed Crew, All Women Crew and Breast Cancer Survivor Crew. Complete teams are comprised of 22 people (20 paddlers, 1 drummer and 1 steerperson).
Those taking part must be at least 12 years of age. Practices are not mandatory but highly recommended. On-water practices generally take place weekday evenings, 7-10 days before festival day. Safety and fun go hand-in-hand at our festival!

This is  the largest Dragon Boat Festival in North America,
not just Canada.

The OPS Dragon Boat Club hosts this small 8-team dragon boat regatta on Canada Day each year. This VERY UNIQUE EVENT takes place in conjunction with canoe/kayak/rowing races for other boats as part of the DDRA Regatta that has been taking place for 123 years. This year we will be running Hong Kong and Taiwan style boats. Hong Kong boats require 20 paddlers, one drummer and one steersperson

Taiwan style boats require 18 paddlers, one drummer, one flag catcher and one steersperson. Both events require 8 female paddlers.

Registration Fee of $500 due by May 15, 2006

Space is limited to the first 40 teams. Ages 14 and up welcome. Minimum 8 female paddlers per team. All teams guaranteed 3 races (in each style). All equipment including a steersperson will be provided by the Chatham-Kent Canoe Club. Every team will have an opportunity for a practice prior to the event.

Over 90 teams from a wide range of companies and organizations will participate in 200 metre dragon boat races across Lake Banook. The Festival provides businesses and organizations with an opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled day, while making a valuable contribution to an important cause, the Nova Scotia Amateur Sport Fund.  Good Day Fellow Paddlers, Greetings from Port Dover!

 A new year is upon us and I know many of you have been wondering what
 is happening with the Norfolk Dragonboat Challenge, 2007. We know
 that all of you need to make your commitments for the 2007 Dragonboat season.

 Well..we have a challenge! For the past 5 years we have worked
 diligently to develop the Norfolk Dragonboat Challenge into an event
 we are all proud to be associated with. We have raised over $180,000
 for our local hospital and been privileged to meet, host, and
 befriend hundreds of dragonboaters from across Ontario...priceless!

 It is with great regret that at this point in time it does not appear
 that we will be having an event this year. As most of you know, last
 year's event really was a challenge in terms of organization, team
 recruitment, and event venue issues. There were internal staff
 changes and issues with our event partners that created problems that
 we were unable to resolve satisfactorily and unfortunately, at this
 point in time, we are no closer to resolution. We need to let the
 dissolution of our present partnership take its natural course so
 that we can move forward.

 And forward we will move!
